For my first recipe blog post, I wanted to share a tried and true classic. It’s something that I cook over and over because I know it’s always a hit with the little guy, since we’re doing baby led weaning (BLW). And you can fit so many veggies in there! I normally go ahead and put about half of the quiche slices in the freezer to save it for those days when I. just. can’t. even.
Ingredient list at the bottom
Step 1: Prep your vegetables. Here I’ve used minced garlic, zucchini, red onion, broccoli, and red bell pepper. Fresh spinach works really well in this too, and I recommend always using garlic, or an onion, or both. You can use whatever veggies you want / have around / need to be eaten quickly and however much will fit in your quiche crust! Chop the vegetables into small pieces, and then saute until slightly soft.
Step 2: I like to add meat, but you can totally skip this step if you want to have a vegetarian quiche. I normally use bacon bits (lardons in French), because of convenience (and it’s delicious,) but feel free to replace this with your favorite. Sauté the meat and then drop it into the quiche crust.
For the quiche crust, I buy a premade refrigerated crust…convenience!
Step 3: Set aside the meat filled quiche crust and work on the filling. Combine all of the eggs, milk, cream cheese, and any spices you want in a separate bowl. Whisk until combined.
Step 4: Fill up the quiche! First, layer the sautéed veggies over the crust and meat, then pour the egg mixture over everything. I really like adding some cheese on top, but that’s totally optional. Here I’ve used some sliced Mozzarella. Other delicious options I’ve tried are feta, cheddar, goat’s cheese, Parmesan… I really don’t think you could make a wrong cheese choice.
Step 5: COOK THAT BAD BOY! Put it on the bottom shelf of the oven at 365F (185C) and cook for 40-50 minutes. When a toothpick comes out clean, it’s done!
Step 6: Sprinkle some parsley on top (fancy!) and enjoy your quiche!!
- 1 ready to cook quiche crust (props to you if you want to make your own from scratch)
- VEGETABLES – seriously, any and all that you want, just saute them before adding in
- 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 onion, sauteed
- bacon bits or other preferred meat (optional)
- 5 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- about 2-4 teaspoons of dried spices (oregano, sage, thyme, basil, rosemary, etc)
- cheese (optional)
- parsley, dried or fresh, for final garnish
Let me know in the comments if you tried my quiche and if you have any other quiche variations you love!
